Seen the theatrical production of that song? I probably would if given the opportunity :D

Space oddity
Bowie

Ground Control to Major Tom
Ground Control to Major Tom
Take your protein pills and put your helmet on
Ground Control to Major Tom
Commencing countdown, engines on
Check ignition and may God's love be with you
(spoken)
Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One, Liftoff
This is Ground Control to Major Tom
You've really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare
"This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do
Though I'm past one hundred thousand miles
I'm feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much she knows"
Ground Control to Major Tom
Your circuit's dead, there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you....
"Here am I floating round my tin can
Far above the Moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do."

Earth Song Lyrics
M.J.

What about sunrise
What about rain
What about all the things
That you said we were to gain...
What about killing fields
Is there a time
What about all the things
That you said was yours and mine...
Did you ever stop to notice
All the blood we've shed before
Did you ever stop to notice
The crying Earth the weeping shores?

What have we done to the world
Look what we've done
What about all the peace
That you pledge your only son...
What about flowering fields
Is there a time
What about all the dreams
That you said was yours and mine...
Did you ever stop to notice
All the children dead from war
Did you ever stop to notice
The crying Earth the weeping shores

I used to dream
I used to glance beyond the stars
Now I don't know where we are
Although I know we've drifted far

Hey, what about yesterday
(What about us)
What about the seas
(What about us)
The heavens are falling down
(What about us)
I can't even breathe
(What about us)
What about the bleeding Earth
(What about us)
Can't we feel its wounds
(What about us)
What about nature's worth
(ooo, ooo)
It's our planet's womb
(What about us)
What about animals
(What about it)
We've turned kingdoms to dust
(What about us)
What about elephants
(What about us)
Have we lost their trust
(What about us)
What about crying whales
(What about us)
We're ravaging the seas
(What about us)
What about forest trails
(ooo, ooo)
Burnt despite our pleas
(What about us)
What about the holy land
(What about it)
Torn apart by creed
(What about us)
What about the common man
(What about us)
Can't we set him free
(What about us)
What about children dying
(What about us)
Can't you hear them cry
(What about us)
Where did we go wrong
(ooo, ooo)
Someone tell me why
(What about us)
What about babies
(What about it)
What about the days
(What about us)
What about all their joy
(What about us)
What about the man
(What about us)
What about the crying man
(What about us)
What about Abraham
(What ABOUT us)
What about death again
(ooo, ooo)
Do we give a damn

Underground
David Bowie (yes i know, soooooo many of his lyrics that I love.)

No one can blame you for walking away
But too much rejection, uh huh...
No love injection

Life can be easy
It's not always swell
Don't tell me truth hurts, little girl
'cause it hurts like hell

But down in the underground
You'll find someone true
Down in the Underground
A land serene, a crystal moon

It's only forever
Not long at all
Lost and Lonely
That's underground, underground

Daddy, daddy, get me out of here
Heard about a place today
Nothing ever hurts again

Sister, sister, please take me down,
gotta get underground

Bodies
Drowning Pool

Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the... floor

Beaten why for (why for)
Can't take much more
(here we go, here we go, here we go)

One - Nothing wrong with me
Two - Nothing wrong with me
Three - Nothing wrong with me
Four - Nothing wrong with me

One - Something's got to give
Two - Something's got to give
Three - Something's got to give
Now

Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor

(Now)
Push me again (again)
This is the end
(here we go, here we go, here we go)

One - Nothing wrong with me
Two - Nothing wrong with me
Three - Nothing wrong with me
Four - Nothing wrong with me
One - Something's got to give
Two - Something's got to give
Three - Something's got to give
Now

Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor

Skin against skin, blood and bone
You're all by yourself but you're not alone
You wanted in now you're here
Driven by hate consumed by fear

Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor

One - Nothing wrong with me
Two - Nothing wrong with me
Three - Nothing wrong with me
Four - Nothing wrong with me

One - Something's got to give
Two - Something's got to give
Three - Something's got to give
Now

Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor

I'm So Sick
Flyleaf

I will break into your thoughts
With what's written on my heart
I will break, break

I'm so sick, infected with
Where I live
Let me live without this
Empty bliss, selfishness
I'm so sick
I'm so sick

If you want more of this
We can push out, sell out, die out
So you'll shut up
And stay sleeping
With my screaming in your itching ears

I'm so sick, infected with
Where I live
Let me live without this
Empty bliss, selfishness
I'm so sick
I'm so sick

Hear it, I'm screaming it
You're heeding to it now
Hear it, I'm screaming it
You tremble at this sound

You sink into my clothes
This invasion makes me feel
Worthless, hopeless, sick

I'm so sick, infected with
Where I live
Let me live without this
Empty bliss, selfishness
I'm so, I'm so sick

I'm so sick, infected with
Where I live
Let me live without this
Empty bliss, selfishness
I'm so (I'm so)
I'm so sick (I'm so sick)
I'm so (I'm so)
I'm so sick (I'm so sick)

Looking up from underneath
Fractured moonlight on the sea
Reflections still look the same to me
As before I went under

And it's peaceful in the deep
'Cause either way you cannot breathe
No need to pray, no need to speak
Now I am under

Oh, and it's breaking over me
A thousand miles out to the sea bed
Found the place to rest my head

(Never let me go, never let me go
Never let me go, never let me go)

And the arms of the ocean are carrying me
And all this devotion was rushing over me
And the questions I have for a sinner like me
But the arms of the ocean deliver me

Though the pressure's hard to take
It's the only way I can escape
It seems a heavy choice to make
But now I am under, oh

And it's breaking over me
A thousand miles down to the sea bed
I found the place to rest my head

(Never let me go, never let me go
Never let me go, never let me go)

And the arms of the ocean are carrying me
(So cold and so sweet)
And all this devotion was rushing out of me
And the questions I have for a sinner like me
But the arms of the ocean deliver me

And it's over and I'm going under
But I'm not giving up
I'm just giving in

Oh, slipping underneath
So cold and so sweet

In the arms of the ocean, so sweet and so cold
And all this devotion, well, I never knew at all
And the questions I have for a sinner released
In the arms of the ocean deliver me

(Never let me go, never let me go
Never let me go, never let me go)

Deliver me

(Never let me go, never let me go
Never let me go, never let me go)
Never let me go, never let me go)

Deliver me
(Never let me go, never let me go)
Never let me go, never let me go)

Deliver me
Never let me go, never let me go

And it's over
I'm going under
But I'm not giving up
I'm just giving in

Ah, slipping underneath
Wooh, so cold, but so sweet

Monty Python
Philosopher Song

Immanuel Kant was a real pissant
Who was very rarely stable.
Heidegger, Heidegger was a boozy beggar
Who could think you under the table.
David Hume could out-consume
Wilhelm Freidrich Hegel,
And Wittgenstein was a beery swine
Who was just as schloshed as Schlegel.

There's nothing Nietzsche couldn't teach ya'
'Bout the raising of the wrist.
SOCRATES, HIMSELF, WAS PERMANENTLY PISSED...

John Stuart Mill, of his own free will,
On half a pint of shandy was particularly ill.
Plato, they say, could stick it away;
Half a crate of whiskey every day.
Aristotle, Aristotle was a bugger for the bottle,
Hobbes was fond of his dram,
And Rene Descartes was a drunken fart: "I drink, therefore I am"
Yes, Socrates, himself, is particularly missed;
A lovely little thinker but a bugger when he's pissed!

broken soul
one would think that you’re perfect
the way in which you sit upon your self
made pulpit
and look down. look away. look down
but I am not your stray mutt
and I’m not the the old rag
with which you can polish your
sadducean concience
can you remember when you were but a
human
before you became that which you now
regard yourself -
a mirage of beauty and grandeur
but when you lock yourself into your
house
know full well that you’re locked in
with the monster within you
I know what’s your biggest fear
It’s that you may be, like me, merely
human
And I understand how this can devastate
you
Because it makes you, like me, a broken
soul
Look, the wheel turns
And we turn and turn and turn along
with it together.
Look, the wheel turns....

Circle of Life

From the day we arrive on the planet
And, blinking, step into the sun
There's more to see than can ever be seen
More to do than can ever be done
There's far too much to take in here
More to find than can ever be found
But the sun rolling high
Through the sapphire sky
Keeps great and small on the endless round
It's the Circle of Life
And it moves us all
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the Circle
The Circle of Life
It's The Circle of Life
And it moves us all
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the Circle
The Circle of Life

My favorite song?
Well, to tell you that story I'd need to tell you the story of my second-favorite song...
I was in hospital, my high-pain tolerance made me very uneasy spending the night there when I just wanted to go home (with bones sticking out through my skin). They had me right next door to the maternity ward and there were women delivering babies all night. They played opera really loudly to cover the screaming, but it didn't work. In agony, those women didn't care how their voices sounded or who heard, they screamed for all they were worth in their natural voices. Parts of the opera music came through, the tone of the excrutiated screams were beautiful to me, pain set to music was the second most beautiful song I have ever heard.

The most beautiful song I heard was the song my dear friend sang to me.
She was a strange one, very hard to get on with and most people didn't bother. In her own way she was beautiful, but so wild that people who didn't understand her were afraid. Small and slight of build, she was -I strongly suspect- more that side than this if you know what I mean.
One day I sat through her strangeness and her complaining for some time until, uncharacteristically and on the spur of the moment she invited me over to her place.
She showed me where someone apparently buried a stillborn child, and where she caught her pet cockroach; she put on different clothes for me and told me about her neighbours. Then she pulled out a guitar and started singing.
Difficult to describe here, her voice was about nine octaves higher than soprano, and she was singing in her own way which I doubt anyone could hope to emulate. She also never bothered to learn the guitar and put it across her lap then plucked it like a harp.
Even if the music had been bad, I would have loved it, just because nobody had heard that before, and might be no one would again, even if she couldn't play or sing, or wrote bad lyrics, I would have been enchanted by the originality and openness of her song.
But for the record, it really was very good -completely original, and maybe if she made a cd it wouldn't sell - but beyond brilliant.

My favorite lyrics?
Oh, that's easier. They change with my mood, but mostly in the top five you will find the opera song from one of the older Final Fantasy games.

I've taken a few liberties here, combining two different versions and perhaps fiddling slightly with the way the lines/verses work, but if you have played them, you should recognise this:

Final Fantasy Opera Song (I'm the Darkness)

Oh my hero, my beloved
Shall we still be made to part?
Though promises of perennial love
yet sing here in my heart

I'm the darkness, you're the starlight
Shining brightly from afar
Through my hours of dispair
I offer this prayer
To you my evening star

Oh my hero, so far away now
Will I ever see you smile?
Love goes away, like night into
day, it's just a fading dream

I'm the darkness, you're the stars
Our love is brighter than the sun
For eternity for me, there can only be
you my chosen one

Must I forget you? our solemn promise
Will autumn take the place of spring
What shall I do, I'm lost without you
Speak to me once more!

Moon Ra
Jon Anderson

Worlds that lie between
are simply seconds of words we do not mean.
Cast a pastel sky
or simply wonder until the day you die.

Eyes have never seen
so pass your future caressing all you've been.

all you say
all you dreamed
all memory awaken

Olias all surrounding the storm
To caress all who fall,
amidst, loves light
shine out
call
so brightly to each tribe came release
higher dreams o'er took the smallest hands
crystallized inside a sleep
close your eyes
only wait for the call
close your eyes
the Moorglade she will sail to the north
all around will delight our eyes
now as one
we'll sound our lives to the sun
as we wait for the call
to ascend to the stars
all to enter your heart
to your love
to your love
to your love
to your love

Through change of dawn
see, peace will come
peace will reign
all along our days
see your love
see your love
see your love

"Heal The World"
M.J.

There's A Place In
Your Heart
And I Know That It Is Love
And This Place Could
Be Much
Brighter Than Tomorrow
And If You Really Try
You'll Find There's No Need
To Cry
In This Place You'll Feel
There's No Hurt Or Sorrow

There Are Ways
To Get There
If You Care Enough
For The Living
Make A Little Space
Make A Better Place...

Heal The World
Make It A Better Place
For You And For Me
And The Entire Human Race
There Are People Dying
If You Care Enough
For The Living
Make A Better Place
For You And For Me

If You Want To Know Why
There's A Love That
Cannot Lie
Love Is Strong
It Only Cares For
Joyful Giving
If We Try
We Shall See
In This Bliss
We Cannot Feel
Fear Or Dread
We Stop Existing And
Start Living

Then It Feels That Always
Love's Enough For
Us Growing
So Make A Better World
Make A Better World...

Heal The World
Make It A Better Place
For You And For Me
And The Entire Human Race
There Are People Dying
If You Care Enough
For The Living
Make A Better Place
For You And For Me

And The Dream We Were
Conceived In
Will Reveal A Joyful Face
And The World We
Once Believed In
Will Shine Again In Grace
Then Why Do We Keep
Strangling Life
Wound This Earth
Crucify Its Soul
Though It's Plain To See
This World Is Heavenly
Be God's Glow

We Could Fly So High
Let Our Spirits Never Die
In My Heart
I Feel You Are All
My Brothers
Create A World With
No Fear
Together We'll Cry
Happy Tears
See The Nations Turn
Their Swords
Into Plowshares

We Could Really Get There
If You Cared Enough
For The Living
Make A Little Space
To Make A Better Place...

Heal The World
Make It A Better Place
For You And For Me
And The Entire Human Race
There Are People Dying
If You Care Enough
For The Living
Make A Better Place
For You And For Me

Heal The World
Make It A Better Place
For You And For Me
And The Entire Human Race
There Are People Dying
If You Care Enough
For The Living
Make A Better Place
For You And For Me

Heal The World
Make It A Better Place
For You And For Me
And The Entire Human Race
There Are People Dying
If You Care Enough
For The Living
Make A Better Place
For You And For Me

There Are People Dying
If You Care Enough
For The Living
Make A Better Place
For You And For Me

There Are People Dying
If You Care Enough
For The Living
Make A Better Place
For You And For Me

You And For Me
You And For Me
You And For Me
You And For Me
You And For Me
You And For Me
You And For Me
You And For Me
You And For Me
You And For Me
You And For Me

Heal the world we live in, save it for our children
Heal the world we live in, save it for our children
Heal the world we live in, save it for our children
Heal the world we live in, save it for our children

Shakin' Stevens
Green Door lyrics

Midnight one more night without sleepin' -
Watchin' till the morning comes creepin'.
Green door what's that secret you're keepin'?
 There's an old piano
 And they play it hot
Behind the green door (Green Door)
 Don't know what they're doin'
 But they laugh a lot
Behind the green door. (Green Door)
 Wish they'd let me in
 So I could find out
What's behind the green door. (Green Door)

Knocked once tried to tell 'em I'd been there
 Door slammed hospitality's thin there.
Wonder just what's goin' on in there.
Saw an eyeball peepin' through a smokey cloud
Behind the green door (Green Door)

When I said Joe sent me
Someone laughed out loud
Behind the green door. (green Door)
AII I want to do is join the happy crowd
Behind the green door. (green door)

Midnight one more night without sleepin' -
Watchin' till the morning comes creepin'.
Green door what's that secret you're keepin'?
There's an old piano and they play it hot
Behind the green door (Green Door)
 Don't know what they're doin'
 But they laugh a lot
Behind the green door. (Green Door)
 Wish they'd let me in
So I could find out what's
Behind the green door. (Green Door)

"Creep"

 When you were here before
Couldn't look you in the eye
 You're just like an angel
 Your skin makes me cry
 You float like a feather
 In a beautiful world
 I wish I was special
 You're so  :censor:  special

But I'm a creep
 I'm a weirdo
What the hell am I doing here?
 I don't belong here

I don't care if it hurts
 I want to have control
 I want a perfect body
 I want a perfect soul
I want you to notice when I'm not around
 You're so  :censor:  special
 I wish I was special

But I'm a creep
 I'm a weirdo
What the hell I'm doing here?
 I don't belong here

She's running out the door
 She's running out
 She runs runs runs

Whatever makes you happy
 Whatever you want
 You're so  :censor:  special
 I wish I was special

But I'm a creep
 I'm a weirdo
What the hell am I doing here?
 I don't belong here
 I don't belong here
