IIRC Gardner was a bit....weird....when it came to sex, women, and homosexuals. Hence my wariness in accepting these rules.

On the other hand, remember that we live in modern times, after about 2000 years of sexism and oppression.

I have to say I agree that these rules are a bit sexist, and as for young women been the prefered choice for high priestess- sounds like the male covern members didn't want to have skyclad grannies as high priestess' But I think there is a simple truth to the rules overall, albeit with sexist air.

Without personal boundries or rules, a person cannot grow in a spiritual sense..
The rules:
1)Spare me the BS. (an other nit/nose picking crap..
2)all those true seekers welcome.
3)fit in or f off policy.
4)when in need phone me.
5)I am the door man and i will kick your butt if you step over the line, but i will also comfort you in times of need. Edit: i am also the local fire hydrant...
6) blessings on your path.
:robin:

@FB: arent we any closer to enlightenment......?? at least with gender equality?? men do not love women by mastering them... or owning them... or disciplining them...or any of the other sexist manifestations of a supposed superiority.....

and apologies to everyone re my bad spelling and grammar (and its rule number 4 and 5 not 3....jeez i must have been upset!!)

All that changed from cave days are the following: cave day 1) man beat wife over head with club and drag her to fruit tree. 2) modern home, wife beat husband over head with words and drag him to the inlaws.

seriously why even bother worrying about those old man made rules..
some good ones but alot where era based.

Love is the Law. Love under Will.

Ooohhhh Crowley's words...fancy. ;)

On the rules, ja well rules are there to be broken and shaped according to ones own thoughts and beliefs. Wicca is a very new and very eclectic religion... one which gives the believers the freedom to shape and add what he/she wants in most cases.

These rules were written in a time where there was a lot of fear, and maybe even hatred...where there were differences in mens and womens rights and priveledges....so its understandable that they are written as they are. Contravercial....naaah not really, not for the era in which they were written.

@Cathwrynn: Of course! But remember Gardner and Alexander were around about 40-60 years ago.
Shall I bring out the GoodHousekeeping's "Guide for a Dutiful Wife" of the same era, again?  :hehehe:
It's only really recently that we've had the wave of change.
Remember: 100 years ago, women didn't even have the vote!

mmm... there were enlightened people around then too... pity they didn't write more stuff.... and i guess i just find it disappointing that spiritual leaders where not closer to truth than the average schmoe....

First it says the rules stem from ancient traditions, then the rules become sexist... even though those ancient traditions revered woman and respected them - hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I am SO glad I am an Anarchist....
