Reiki Lineage
« on: February 17, 2010, 02:00:59 PM »
'Lineage' is something that is often discussed in Reiki, but just how important is it? Whilst it does prove that one has studied under a Reiki master who can be traced back to Mikao Usui, just how important is it to the actual practice of Reiki. Should not Reiki practitioners rather focus on the Reiki itself and helping others instead of who's lineage is 'better'?

...just some thoughts.

Personally, I think this is another one of those 'elitist' things. Even if you ask for reiki lineage, it can be so easily faked and how often will someone actually go and check up on said lineage.

I don't feel its important to know lineage, I am more interested in learning (and teaching) HOW to do reiki, not who taught me or who taught you etc

I think the focus should be on the Reiki itself and passing it on to as many as possible, because the more people capable of doing reiki, the better for the world......

The more I read discussions in Reiki groups, the more I see that there is an elietist view held by so many Reiki practitioners and masters, and the arguments that can be spouted from this. I just find it really sad because I feel the same as you SS; the focus should be on the energy itself and sharing it with others, whether through practicing or teaching.

NF, that elitest view is something that has worried me for quite a while already
