Children and Pre-School/Playschool
« on: May 06, 2008, 09:32:25 AM »
Well it finally happened this morning. We dropped off big brother at his school, and then went to drop of little one for his first day at Pre-School.  :3':

Siestog... he was very brave, I stayed with him for a few minutes, and played puzzles, and talked with his teacher. Having explained that he is tri-lingual, but does understand as well as speak a bit of english, she assured me that he would be fine. So I gave him a hug and a kiss, and said bye-bye...

But boy is it hard, even though its number two going through the first day at school thing. I am sure he will thrive in this school, but one cannot help being a bit jittery anyway..  :erm:  Now its very quiet here at home...

I homeschooled my kids until times got hard and I had to put them into mainstream schooling... and when the 'baby' started school it was the hardest... I wish I could homeschool again................ :(

Ja shame hey... well today went very well, he only cried once after I left, but then he was fine.  :p

Luckily its only two days a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays..   But when I fetched him he came with me without crying and wanting to stay...woohoo. He didn't throw a screaming fit..

And I asked him what they did, then he told me, they played with puzzles, and he drew a car and they played outside...shame.

@Ameniatha, you have given your child over to the world to teach. Sometimes its harder for the parents. Blessings. :notworthy:

Get yourself some Rescue Remedy and just go through the motions.  It is also a good opportunity for him (and you) to learn how to cope, make friends and so on under new circumstances

Why don't you take 2/3 days off take him to his new school, then you can spend a few extra minutes there with him before you leave and then go and pick him up after they've had lunch?

That way, his first few days wouldn't be that long and you can talk to his teacher to find out how he's doing.  But be warned, when he goes back the Monday after his first weekend, it'll be a little tough for him again.  After the second Monday, it should be better.

Also Frayja, you should try to make it exciting for him. Tell him how nice his new school is and how exciting its going to be to go to a new school and make new friends etc etc etc. Make sure he feels it something great and something to look forward to. Maybe even buy him a new t-shirt or something that he can wear on his first day to 'celebrate'.

Just my 2 cents.

Dont make too big a deal of the change of schools, treat it as a normal change, and let him know that its fun to be at a new school. I think it will be way harder on you than it will on him.
